Hi, I ran the bitdefender cd and found 3 infected items. However the final message was that the fix was ignored and the computer was still infected. Is there a phone no to contact the 24 hour support team that is advertised? Is there a good reason the three items was not removed or repaired?

Thanks for any help or suggestions.

I’ve tried burning both the 2008 and 2009 versions and neither works. In either, I don’t get the screen shown above, I get one that gives me options to “start knoppix” which gives me some limited shell in which I can’t do anything or “boot from first hard drive” which of course gets me into windows. Where’s the anti virus?

  • Graham

Had same trouble as Mark. CD worked ok on PC, but couldn’t locate Knoppix on Laptop CD?

Any help would be appreciated, though understand you guys don’t write the software…

Got it to work fine on a clean laptop, but couldn’t start Knoppix on suspected infected desktop. Can’t start that machine in Windows safe mode either. Issues related? Don’t know what else to do if I can’t boot into anything but the infected OS. Will try one of the other implementations, but any help/suggestions would be helpful.

Burned the ISO file to the CD
Set BIOS to read from CD first
Restart computer and see (for about 1 second) the prompt “Boot from CD: ” then it boots from the hard drive.
Tried typing “Y” at prompt but no luck or I am not fast enough.
Not quite sure what to do.

  • Bob

Got past the .iso thing and it does boot into the rescue disk.
Now it can’t find knoppix. Oh well.

  • Bobby A

I Wanted to thank you for leading me to BitDefender’s Boot Rescue CD App. In case it helps anyone out there, I original tried to burn a CD image from the .ISO file using Roxio and an old version of Nero CD Burn. Both apps. create their own ISO file from an original CD, but wouldn’t handle an already created ISO file.
I eventually downloaded isorecorder by Alex Feinman at http://isorecorder.alexfeinman.com/isorecorder.htm
It made it so easy! All you need to do is double click on any ISO file in My Computer or Explorer. Small and fast.
BitDefender ran perfectly off the Boot CD.
I would like to know where the updated Virus Signatures file is located after the update. I figure it’s temporarily stored in the RAMdisk it creates for itself. Seeing that I burned the ISO into a CD+R, I can’t imagine it burning updates to the CD. Luckily I have an open Broadband port.

  • Bobby A

FYI, I did read somewhere that some computers can’t handle “Linux” on boot CD. Something to do with Paradox I believe.
Maybe different partition mgrs? Anyway, it won’t boot properly on some computers.

An updated rescue CD is great. You burn ISO file to a CD and the CD is just readable.Do you need to update the CD every time you run it ? Where to save updates to use bandwidth more efficient ?

    @Anna,

Bitdefender Rescue CD can works on any windows operating system. The only concern is whether BitDefender Rescue CD support your hardware devices or not

  • hi

I want to know , is it necessary that to use rescue disk we should have its antivirus software installed in our pc?

  • http://www.techmixer.com km

BitDefender Rescue Disk normally use as backup antivirus solution or last option to clean up virus.

  • D

Looks like the new update for BitDefender Rescue Disk does not contain an antivirus engine size of download is 319M, it automatically gather update informations but will not perform a scan.

  • Geodan

    Help!

Am running BitDefender Rescue on an 8GB Winxp desktop that won’t boot from system, nor from SAFE or system rescue CDs. The BitDefender rescue CD, created on a Mac, starts OK, displays 4 minutes of slow pulsing Bit Defender logo, then briefly displays a msg re: mounting partitions, followed by a black screen … to infinity. What does it mean?

Is there a writeup explaining the BitDefender rescue steps and associated displays, hopefully with error results and possible meanings?

    Thanks

  • rogerX

No it’s not necessary to have antivirus installed on your computer before using this rescue disk.

  • rogerX

Arsham: the CD will update its virus definitions everytime you run it. No need to save the old updates.

Anna: Yes, works with Windows 7

Bob: it loads its own drivers

Kavan: scroll up on this page and click on the words “Download Bit Defender Rescue CD” in blue. You’ll be taken to another page. Read it carefully, there’s a file called “bitdefender-rescue-cd.iso”. Click on that and download it. It’s 362 Mb in size, so will take a while.

Tom L: Make sure you burn the .iso image file to CD using image burning software … don’t just copy the file to a CD, you can’t use it that way.

    To all:
I just downloaded the new 2010 .iso and burned it to CD. Rebooted the computer and entered “Setup” by pressing the Del key (yours may be different.)

Computer booted and I got a menu to choose what language to boot Bit Defender into.

Clicking on one of those, I got the black screen with just the words “Bit Defender”. I did not get a message to press Enter (or any other key). After about 30 secs. or so, it continued the boot process and loaded the Bit Defender desktop screen properly.

It began an update of its virus definitions automatically, and then when done, began a virus scan.

Everything works perfectly, except for not seeing the message to press Enter.

Bitdefender rescue freezes at welcome.  I’m using a wireless mouse, is that why I can’t click continue?  I try to tab to the continue button and that doesn’t work either.  Any suggestions?

  • johnwboyd

I was able to update the definitions but how to locate my hard drive to scan it? It said it had scanned 0 files. Only files I can locate seem to be on the USB. :(
