KOffice 2: Free Open Source Office Suite

KOffice 2, a free office suite that utilizes free and open standards like OpenDocument for its document formats, component communication and component embedding. Meanwhile, this free office productivity suite is available on Linux with KDE or GNOME, Windows and Macintosh.  Plus more, it can interoperability with other Office packages like OpenOffice.org and Microsoft Office.

KOffice 2 is a much more flexible application suite than KOffice 1 ever was. The integration between the office  components is much stronger. Plus more, all the applications of KOffice has a new GUI layout better suited to todays wider screens.  The GUI consists of a workspace and a sidebar where tools can dock.  Any tool can be ripped off to create its own window and later be redocked fo full flexibility.  The users setup preferences are of course saved and reused the next time that KOffice is started.

Koffice 2 includes the following office applications :

• KWord - Word processor
• KSpread - Spreadsheet calculator
• KPresenter - Presentation manager
• KPlato - Project management software
• Karbon - Vector graphics editor
• Krita - Raster graphics editor

However, KOffice 2 is still remain as preview release for tester use only and not for end users. They also do not recommend Linux distributions to package it as the default office suite yet. But you still can download Koffice 2 for test run on your computer.
