Meanwhile, Microsoft Phone data manager only connects to your mobile phone using wireless (Bluetooth) or with a USB cable only. Plus more, a Windows Live ID is require to activate Microsoft Photo data manager synchronize.

However, Microsoft Phone Data Manager currently is a beta product and can’t consider as a full mobile phone data backup solution yet which can backup data features like backup up sms, games or protocols. But i still believe those features implemented in later versions.
