Free Media Player for Windows

VLC Media Player

This is an excellent alternative to Windows Media Player. VLC Media Player is an open source software, meaning that anyone, anywhere can download and use the program for free. VLC Media Player is popular because it stretches across platforms while allowing users complete freedom of operation. The media player can stream video, while supporting many different file types and video codecs. Many people like VLC Media Player because of the ability to stream content directly from the player. It comes with built in channels of various TV shows, radio stations and even movies. However, VLC Media Player is bare bones, it’s not very pretty, so don’t expect to download a work of art. It’s an excellent program thats simple to use and offers a lot of options for any user.

QuickTime Player

This Apple developed media player has been providing music and video playback on Mac and Windows PCs for over ten years. It supports some of the same files as Windows Media Player and VLC Media Player, while also allowing users to playback DVDS, CDs and stream content over the web through the QuickTime’s browser window. It also has automatic updates for those that forget to update their software. But, there are some pitfalls with QuickTime Media Player, such as not having a full-screen video playback option in the free version of QuickTime. There are several different versions of QuickTime and if you don’t cough up some extra cash, then you’re not going to get everything that QuickTime can do. Isn’t Apple a lovely company.
