  1. Nothing happened after I installed the Google Chinese Input software. There was no sign shown anywhere although I could confirm it showed in the list of Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panel.

    My operating system is Windows XP. I suspect if the input method is still not meature enough for everybody’s using.

    Anybody has the same problem?

  2. Hit ALT-SHIFT and see if it comes up for you.  All of the instructions for the software are in Chinese, so it’s a bit of a learning curve (especially if you read Chinese as slowly as I do), but once you get the interface hotkeys worked out, it works extremely well, I love it.

  3. Hi does every know where i can down load this software, please send me a link to get the place. Thanks,

  4. I download this software, but nothing come out too. Hi Ctrl space bar or shift space bar, still nothing appeared.
    Unable to activate the software?

  5. I’ve downloaded it but the characters in the googlebar aren’t showing up! it’s taking me waaay too long to go through it all and find the right character!

    I’m still looking for the language supprot thing that we’re supposed to downlaod to help that but I can’t find it!

  6. Thank you for the “Hit ALT-SHIFT” suggestion. It works! I had previously used Google pinyin before. Recently I reinstall Windows XP, and installed Google Pinyin. I can see it’s installed in Add and Remove Programs, but Google Pinyin won’t start or will not activate! Ctrl-Space would not work at this point. However, Alt-Shft seems to have “activated” google pinyin once and for all. After that, I can use Ctrl-Space to turn it on and off. Of course you need to do it when the cursor in in an editor or a browser page form input field.

  7. Apparently, you need to massage the settings here to ensure Google pinyin shows up conveniently for you in Windows XP:

    Regional and language options
    Languages tab
    Details button
    Default input language section,
    select “Chinese PRC – google …”
    Key settings button to open “Advanced Key Settings” dialog box
    and play with the various setting there.

    Windows XP is complicated! Try Linux Ubuntu instead. But Google Pinyin does not support Ubuntu, rather you use some other input programs, like SCIM there.

  8. I’m using Mac and I wanted to download it.. So… can u make one that mac can use? I really wanted to download it… if there is please email me. TQ.

      At this moment, Google Pin Yin only support Windows OS only.

      Meanwhile, Mac OS by default already support chinese character. You can try it out on Mac

    @Jason

    How to launch it ?
    you have to search on your computer “GooglePinyinUpdater”
    i found it in Documents and Settings>USER > Application Data > Google > Pinyin)
    you click on it, he will try to update, EVEN IF he’s updated BUT it will after stay in the tray so you can use it
    You should have to do that everytime you start Windows.

    greetings from France

  10. I can’t read Chinese well enough to understand all the things they have checked, so I don’t know what to do. I am a very beginner and so I can’t make heads or tails of it.

    Isn’t there an English version? If we could all read Chinese, we wouldn’t need to use pinyin input in the first place.

  11. control panel ->
    Regional and language options
    Languages tab
    Details button
    Default input language section,
    select “Chinese PRC – google …”
    remove any MS pinyin input you may have

    that did it for me. good luck!

  12. hi, i know this thread is old, however i wanted to ask…is there a way for it to write out pinyin instead of characters? for example, if i write out nihao, instead of having the characters come out, it’ll suggest ni hao with the tones above them
