I did not do it, but I guess to uninstall -> Change or Remove Programs
To see if any change -> Run -> type “dxdiag” -> Check the last line on that screen.

Doesn’t work to uninstall? Well, please say it loud, so I will avoid it!

Apparently working. Dxdiag shows DX10. HL2 reports “software DirectX = DX10?.Uau!!!…. But….. apparently, my Radeon 4850 Catalyst 8.11 XP drivers, DON´T support DX 10. It´s useless OS supporting DX10 while your drivers doesn’t support it. DX10 games doesn’t install, because they tell they need Vista to play in DX10 mode. Comments? anyone really played games in XP in DX10 mode? With Radeons? Catalyst version?

Do not use this, most games that require DX9c won’t agree with it and won’t run, its also hard to remove from your system!

How to fix “directX version 9.0c or higher is required to run BF2″

Do a system restore before following the info below.

Click: Start
Select: Run
Type (in the run box): regedit
Select OK
REGEDIT is now open.
Search for the DIRECTX folder.
Will be here: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\DirectX
Once found,(regedit open) click file, export and export the registry
selected branch. Use whatever name you want. I used directx_bak
Now delete the DIRECTX folder.

Save the following text below as dx9.reg
(text between the ***** do not include the ****)

********************************

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\DirectX]
“InstalledVersion”=hex:00,00,00,09,00,00,00,00
“Version”=”4.09.00.0904″

********************************
Double click the dx9.reg file.
Select YES to the window that opens.

Now download this file: directx_nov2008_redist.exe
Get it from Microsoft website or Google it.

The following link may work for some:

http://download.microsoft.com/download/0/d/3/0d307649-9967-49fa-ab27-61f11024e97f/directx_nov2008_redist.exe

Once you have downloaded the directx_nov2008_redist.exe file, run it.
When finished, reboot your PC.

I have tried my fix on three systems here and it works.
I can play BF2 again, along with 2 other machines I have fixed.
Hope this info is helpfull to others.

Well hello everybody ! I’m new in here and I wouldn’t be if I’d solved what don’t let me sleep be4 (lol) ^^
This is my config :
CORE 2 E 7400 @ 3500 MHZ
GIGABYTE GA EP43
SAPPHIRE ATI R 4850
1 X 2GB KINGSTON @ 1066 MHZ 5-5-5-15
WIN XP 32 BIT SP3

NICE , DON’T YOU THINK …

WELL ,
AND NOW .. THIS IS THE BIG *** PROBLEM :S :@

I’VE EXPERIENCED IN MOST OF THE NEW GAMES EXCEPTIONING A LITTLE MINORY A VERY IMPORTANT DELAY IN THE KEYBOARD SIGNAL , WHAT IT MEANS THAT ALL THE COMMANDS I GIVE FOR EXAMPLE GO FORDWARD , TURN TO LEFT , JUMP ETC , ARRIVES WITH AN IMPORTANT TIME DIFFERENCE WHAT MAKES A GAME UNPLAYABLE IS SOMETHING LIKE A VIDEO LAGGING, BUT THE PROBLEM ACTUALLY RESIDES IN THAT DEVICE . ANYWAY I FOUND A TEMPORAL SOLUTION BY UPDATING OR REINSTALLING THE VIDEO DRIVER AND DIRECTX … BUT IN MOST CASES THE PROBLEM COMES BACK WHEN INSTALLING A NEW APPLICATION OR CHANGING SOME SYSTEM PARAMETER.
I CAN’T JUST BELIEVE THIS BEHAVIOR HAVING SUCH A POWERFUL SYSTEM .
AND I THINK THERE ISN’T ANY OTHER SOLUTION THAN REINSTALLING THE OS OR INSTALLING A SERVICE PACK 2 , I DON’T KNOW WHAT TO DO , SO PLEASE IF YOU KNOW THIS PROBLEM ORIGIN AND SOLUTION PLEASE TELL ME .

THANK YOU VERY MUCH =)

OH , I ALMOST FORGOT , OTHER GAMES LIKE ONE I’D REALLY LIKE TO PLAY THAT IS CHRONICLES OF RIDDICK ESCAPE FROM BUTCHER’S BAY , DOESN’T EVEN START BECAUSE OF CRASHING AND OTHER RELATED ISSUES , AND ANOTHER ONES LIKE F.E.A.R. HAVE SOME GRAPHICS BUG’S ”NON SOLVED BY PATCHES”

It doesn’t work at all really. It just tricks DxDiag into thinking it’s DirectX 10. Drivers for XP don’t come with the code required.

ManicMonster Says

For those who say it doesn’t work. I run Vista on my laptop and XP on my dual core main machine. I could not play any of the directx 10 games on my dual core no matter the specs ram and video.. alas if you are thinking it fools the dxdiag into showing it’s dx10, think about it.. why would my DX10 games now run on my XP based machine. :) And yes you can copy over some of the other files in DX10 as well.

There are a few extra things you have to do but it works. You really have to know what you are doing, even step by step I have tried to explain and people still mess it up. All I can say is that to those who know how to do it enjoy it. DX11 and Win7 really looks nice. Makes some of the DX10 games look a lot better, there must have been some things missing in DX10 that left the quality down a bit.

Have fun
